We are delighted to announce that American Artist is now part of the gallery. Using primarily sculpture, video, installation, digital media and writing in their practice, American Artist (Altadena, CA 1989) formulates thought experiments related to race and visibility, sense of identity and community within our networked societies, history of technology, knowledge production and surveillance capitalism.
Challenging the established white male canon imposed by Western Art History by changing their legal name in 2013, American Artist made themselves hard to trace and simultaneously gained hypervisibility, claiming their place within a context and a definition from which Afro-diasporic artists have long been excluded.
They will participate in INFORMATION (Today) at the Kunsthalle Basel opening on June 25.
American Artist is also represented by Commonwealth and Council, LA, and will have a solo exhibition at the gallery on June 3rd. Labor will present a solo show in September, 2021.
