Until September 10th, artista Irene Kopelman will be in residency at The Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center, located on the shores of Italy’s Lake Como. Through convening and residencies, the Bellagio Center seeks to support the work of artists, scholars and thought leaders capable of promoting new ideas and generating global change initiatives.
Over the last years, Irene Kopelman has accompanied many field expeditions of scientific researchers and has accumulated a wide deep knowledge regarding our environment and the intricate ecological processes it relies on. After spending long periods of observation, the artist formulates new systems of representation that are subsequently transformed into artworks.
“Bridging the fields of science and the arts, my work documents climate change and uncovers the potential of art to provide new layers of understanding to the vulnerable natural world we live in.” – Irene Kopelman.
