May 19th, 1932 (Cosamaloapan, Veracruz) – March 19th, 2021 (Mexico City)
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to the Mexican sculptor and painter Ernesto Mallard, Op-art pioneer and prominent representative of kinetic art.
Mallard studied Architecture at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and Plastic Arts at the ENPEG “La Esmeralda” in Mexico City. He later focused on an artistic practice geared towards audience’s participation.
His more than eighty solo exhibitions and more than ninety collective shows include "Conecta los puntos" [Join the Dots] (2014) at Labor: a tribute to Mallard’s production between 1968 and 1974, structured through a conversation with the work of Pedro Reyes.
Our deepest condolences to the artist’s family and friends.
